this is so bad, it's worse than the skate rule in the mid 90's that kept taking goals away if a skate was in the crease

Exactly words I said to my brother last night watching the game. The fact it took what seemed like 10 minutes, has to mean its inconclusive & the goal has to stand. The game was lost right there, totally KILLED momentum & gave the Caps a boost & they took the game over from there.

I swear, I really do want a goon on this team today, just to take Tom Wilson out once & for all. He was always on the ice too last night, hitting from behind, being a ass, yapping with everyone on the bench.

at this point, instead of calling a timeout after a goal, just call for a video review, especially in the 3rd period. It actually is longer than a 30 second timeout anyway.

once that goal was called back, and even before it they were getting their doors blown off in the 2nd and had zero chance in the 3rd.

Listen, I know the games not the same anymore & yada, yada. But lets be honest, some physical presence would be nice. Even a agitator type. The few that were around this deadline are gone now. Burrows went to Ottawa & Steve Ott went to Montreal.

It was clear besides maybe Miller & Kreider (and lets face it, they would get tossed in a fight with Wilson) they were not gonna engage Wilson, no matter what he did out there. When a player knows they can run roughshot over an opponent, the mental game is won.

Caps are always physical, last night it seemed it was their game plan. Yea, I forgot that Winnik went after Clendenning for basically nothing. So they can hit & run guys but if anyone dare hits one of them, they have to fight?

Jim - Your POV's are refreshing but you are off on your assessment of the PP.
It is almost a chore for them to get into the zone consistently, or even have guys supporting the puck carrier. Also when they are leaving their zone to bring the puck up ice is pathetic.

Case in point - McD turnover on the drop back pass which turned into a scoring chance for the other team. Even when our PP was 5th in the league to the eye it looked like the same old crap from previous years. We either don't have the players or the coach stinks at drawing up a plan. The Flyers are void of talent and their PP always looks like it is a threat to score; which is why I think this is a coaching/making in game adjustments issue.

Same reason Crosby can go & Mug Mac Doughna and not get the instigating penalty along with it ... both got 5 min each & Mac got the original Peanlty
